Flute Boot Camp

Registration is now open for Flute Boot Camp, group flute lessons in Hawaii this Fall. Register at https://goo.gl/forms/Y7ZJEkcGqVPFRaxO2

Take your flute playing to the next level in a supportive, low-pressure environment with this Flute Boot Camp workshop. Gain greater flexibility, agility, and expression through a series of exercises appropriate for intermediate through advanced students. Space is limited to ensure that each participant has an opportunity to play and receive one-on-one guidance each week.

WEEK 1: LONG TONES, VIBRATO
Tone production is the foundation of good flute playing. Achieve an easier, “free-blowing” feeling through awareness of posture and facial muscles.

WEEK 2: CHROMATIC SCALES, TURNAROUND SCALES
After a review of previous exercises, learn how to achieve a more even sound throughout the full range of your flute using scale practice.

WEEK 3: ARTICULATION
After a review of previous exercises, work on common articulation challenges with excerpts from orchestral and solo music. Week 4 preview.

WEEK 4: TONE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH INTERPRETATION
In the tradition of Marcel Moyse, find greater expression by studying and transcribing masterpieces of the vocal repertoire.

WEEK 5: ORCHESTRAL EXCERPTS I
Study excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire and techniques for practicing them.

WEEK 6: ORCHESTRAL EXCERPTS II, AUDITIONING
An audition workshop using music from Week 6.
