New "Après un rêve" Arrangement for Flute Ensemble

My newest arrangement for flute ensemble is of Gabriel Fauré’s “Après un rêve,” Op. 7, No. 1. “Après un rêve” is a beautiful example of French chanson and has been transcribed for numerous instruments.

The orchestration of this arrangement is inspired by Fauré’s Requiem which was initially written for solo violin and divisi low strings (viola, cello, bass). The color of the low flute choir complements the melody in the solo flute without competing. Using low flutes also allowed me to choose a lower and darker key with minimal sacrifices in voice leading.

I had a lot of fun creating this arrangement and hope that others will enjoy performing it. Because it may be difficult to get 4 alto flutes together, I’ve also allowed for performance as a more standard flute choir. The digital sheet music packet includes:

  • Full Score

  • Flexible instrumentation and parts to create any of the following combinations:

    • Solo Flute & Low Flute Ensemble (YOUTUBE VERSION / Solo Flute, 4 Alto Flutes, Bass Flute, Optional Contrabass Flute)

    • Solo Flute & Flute Choir (Solo Flute, 2 Flutes, 2 Alto Flutes, Bass Flute, Optional Contrabass Flute)

    • Flute Choir (3 Flutes, 2 Alto Flutes, Bass Flute, Optional Contrabass Flute)
